The other night we had these darling little flour tortillas at some friends house. She said she saw them at Target and just couldn’t resist. I promptly decided that the next time I made Mexican, I would make mini tortillas with my press. The silver circle below is my tortilla press and I LOVE it! I got mine at a cooking store for $12. {I couldn’t believe it was so cheap, but it really is a very basic tool.} It is meant for corn tortillas but does just fine with flour as well.
Here’s the recipe I use:
Tortillas–makes twelvish, 5 inch tortillas -Mix 2 cups flour and 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder -Mix 1 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. oil, and 3/4 cup warm milk or water Combine these two mixes Cover to let rest for 15 minutes Divide dough into balls…golf ball maybe for mini Press in tortilla press and place on hot skillet for about 1 minute each side. (Just until slightly browned.)ahhhh, they are so cute! And taste Mexican-rific.
Even if you don’t have a tortilla press, you can still make awesome homemade tortillas. {Just might not be as much fun!} I also discovered Masa for making corn tortillas when I got my press about a year ago. It’s very inexpensive at the grocery store and has an easy recipe right on the bag.
I enjoy your posts, Ingrid. These remind me of the lefse we watched you make with the children at Spirit of Joy a year ago. I (Kerri Tietgen’s mom) invite you to follow my blog, journeyofavintagegirl.blospot, com I’m just getting into the blogging world. The best to you and your family!

adorable! I made tortillas from a recipe you posted a long time ago, but now I want a press! the hardest part was rolling out the dough. A press might be just the ticket 🙂
I make some sweet corn tomalito with Masa that is just like Chevy’s and my family loves it! Best stuff ever!
Yay Gail! Thanks for sharing your blog! I am sooo excited to follow what you are up to! Great name too! Nice to see glimpses of SD and your family too.
Yes, the pressing is the hardest. This is the same recipe, I just simplified it since I didn’t think all the resting and kneading were needed. A press is the ticket!
ummmm…recipe???!!! Those sound awesome!
