Tony was craving a little Mexican tonight, so I decided to make soft shell tacos with homemade tortillas. Let me warn you though, once you have homemade tortillas you will never be fully satisfied with store bought. Super easy recipe and totally worth the extra time.
Tortillas–makes eight, 7-8″ tortillas -Mix 2 cups flour and 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder -Mix 1 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. oil, and 3/4 cup warm milk Combine these two mixes gradually Knead for two minutes and then cover to let rest for 15 minutes Divide dough into 8 pieces and let rest another 20 minutes Roll out into 7-8″ circles and fry on a hot Teflon skillet
For dessert, we followed it up with a little Hot Fudge Sauce over vanilla ice cream. mmmm…
The recipe below was originally a microwave recipe, so feel free to make it that way, but I got a little funny about our microwave and got rid of it.
Hot Fudge SauceIn a saucepan mix 1/2 cup sugar, 1 1/2 Tbsp. corn starch, dash of salt, and a shy 1 cup milk–whisk this well and cook until thickened
Add 2 squares of chocolate (found in the baking isle), 2 tsp. butter, and 1 tsp. vanilla
Whisk well until thick. Pour over ice cream and enjoy!!!
Homemade doesn’t mean a ton of work. With some simple recipes you can really impress your family and friends. Just be prepared to have to start new traditions with your new domestic skill!
Okay. I am officially addicted to your blog. I’m plannin on making the homemade tortillas very soon and I can’t wait to see the results! Devin said she made them awhile ago and they were amazing!
