I may have taken on one of those projects that you think will be really fun and then realize that it may just take you 5 years to get it done. I was at a cabin in the north woods a few summers ago and there was this fabulous rug in the main room. It was so soft on the feet and made the room feel so cozy. I have always wanted to make my own since I saw that one. So a couple nights ago the project started. I bought about 18 yards of wool at a discount store–black, orange, and a pale green. I am cutting it into 3 inch strips and braiding it. As I go, I am using some mighty strong thread to weave it together. I think it will be so cool when it is done, but it might take me a while to get there. I’m also beginning to think more on the realistic side…black wool with a yellow lab is maybe not a good mix. hmmm… The husband keeps giving me doubtful looks, but I will forge on, and on, and on, and on….
Ingrid- That is amazing that you are making your own braided rug! You are my personal hero! Can’t wait to see it as you progress.
I actually have a very similar project. I decided to crochet a full sized rug out of cotton yarn. I tripled the yarn so it’s nice and thick, and bought three giant cones of yarn from jo-anns using those coupons in the mail. Well, I am maybe a quarter of the way through, and needed more yarn, and decided to stock up on my yarn each time a coupon came it. needless to say, I didn’t compare the colors when I bought the new yarn, and I have three cones in a brighter white, which it way different from the off white/tan color I started with. opps! I think I’m going on about 2 years with this project!
